Occupational Therapy (OT): OT focuses on maximizing level of function and safety with daily activities through modification of task or environment, use of adaptive equipment and compensatory strategies. OT can help address deficits in upper extremity strength or coordination, activities of daily living (dressing, toileting, self-feeding, grooming, etc), wheelchair positioning, and safety awareness.
Physical Therapy (PT): The goal of PT is to promote mobility and function. PT works directly with residents to help increase mobility and decrease pain. PT can help address deficits in lower extremity strength, ambulation, functional transfers, stair negotiation, balance, pain, contractures, and activity tolerance. PT also can assist with assistive device training including use of a walker or cane.
